oh, one more thing.

The fact that TV commercials became shorter has to do with two things that are not mentioned: (1) more companies wanted to use the time reserved for commercials and this only could be done by shorten all commercials, and (2) by doing so, the price per commercial broadcasted dropped.
So what do we learns from the facts and figures mentioned? You can look at them and explain them the way you like. Time to use your head yourself.

Greatings from Holland!
The post I repond to is 1 year old, so this would mean that our interest span is decreased with another minute, so... I guess that we do not need to create any video at all anymore. Please do not tell this to our customers, because they ask us to have long video on the net.
Funny.
If the interest is caught by the viewer, they'll view longer.
Oh really?
Well perhaps we should not bodder (?!) the lenght, but pay more attention to the content. As will text, if the content of your video sucks, the viewer tell you with the above facts and figures. These do not say anything about lenght, but all about content. duhuh.

Hi there Jay,

Thanks for stopping by.

You make a good point but you haven't considered the fundamental differences between the mediums:
TV is basically a passive medium, whereas the Web actively encourages participation. Not to mention the trend for shortening spans of attention is well documented regardless.

So where does that put infomercials? Those have typically been 30 minutes and while I don't watch much TV any more I don't *think* they've been cutting those down, have they?

If a 30-minute infomercial works on TV, why wouldn't a longer than 60 second video work online?
